You can’t have relationship(s) until you are able to have a good relationship. I think that goes for darn near any kind of relationship. Respect is important. But so is trust. If you can’t trust someone to work with you in the important areas of your shared lives, like finances, child rearing, house keeping etc., even if you love them, and even respect them in other parts of their lives, then it’s hard to have a relationship. Too often I think people act as individuals, in it for the sex, or the money, or the perks and when that’s gone, so are they. I see that in monogamy, and I see that in non -monogamy as well.
